LJMS Solar Measuring Station
A sophisticated solar measuring station was recently installed in the front of Luther Jackson Middle, through a grant from Dominion Energy.
The solar station was provided to Luther Jackson’s ESTEEM Center program for Equity in Science, Technology, Engineering, English and Math, provides opportunities for Luther Jackson’s students to mentor students in programs in all five of the elementary schools that feed the majority of students in STEM related activities. The Luther Jackson ESTEEM Center has provided more than $70,000 to the Title One elementary schools with future Luther Jackson students.
The measuring station has a web-based graphical interface allowing students at the Middle School, and students in Westlawn, Graham Road, Spring Hill, Camelot, Fairhill and Woodburn Elementary Schools to study the environmental impacts of catching the sun’s light and heat to generate solar energy.
